You love the style, sophistication, and romance of the Old West, so you've decided to buy a women's western shirt. Now if only someone could guarantee that you'd look as lovely as the model in the western wear online catalog. While we can't make a 100 percent guarantee, we can suggest two methods that will increase your success in finding the right western shirt for your frame.
Method One: Measure an existing shirt that fits you well
Many western wear catalogs recommend the "measure the body" approach (method #2 below), but as you probably know, this is harder than it seems. This is why we recommend this first method--it's easier!
Step 1: Lay the buttoned shirt flat on a flat surface. Measure across the chest, one inch below the armhole. Double the measurement to account for both the front and back.

Step 2: If you like a close fit, subtract four inches from the shirt measurement. This is your chest size.
Step 3: Find the closest measurement in the chest sizes chart found on each page of the women's western shirts.
Method Two: Estimate from actual chest measurement
Accurate measurements do remove the guesswork--and the likelihood of having to return something that doesn't fit. If you're comfortable using a tape measure--or having someone measure you--go with this method.
Step 1: If you don't already know your chest measurement, measure the fullest part of your chest, typically one inch below the arm.

Step 2: Find the closest measurement on the sizing chart found on each western shirt page. If you want extra room and a relaxed fit, buy up a size. Remember, you can always have a shirt tailored if you want it to be snug, but a shirt can’t be let out more than the amount of fabric that's in the final product.
General Tips:
Keep in mind that women's western shirts are conventionally form-fit. While ladies' western shirts are sized for women, they tend to be driven by men's western shirts styles. Our shirts generally result in a "true" fit for the body measurements listed. Our interest lies in helping you remain free and comfortable as you pursue your favorite outdoor activities. If you're "in between" categories, we recommend that you lean toward the next larger size category. Another thing to keep in mind: most of the women's western shirts are 100% cotton, so there may be some shrinking after washing. Don't forget they snap, too, so you'll want to leave extra room through the bust line.

How to Wear Women's Western Shirts
Whether you want a casual or formal look, your women's western shirts will deliver. It all depends on how you wear them. Here are some tips for accomplishing just the right look with your cowgirl shirts.
Fun & Flirty Look: Untucked & Unbuttoned Women's Western Shirts
Untucked western shirts do not have to give the appearance of an unprofessional or sloppy look. Wear your women's western long sleeve shirt untucked and open to reveal a solid camisole beneath it--talk about romantic! Or simply leave a few of the top buttons undone and show off some cool western jewelry. Or keep some of the lower buttons open (like in this skeleton western shirt and show off a tight tummy.
Classic Look: Tucked In Western Shirts
Tucked in shirts are perfect if you're going for the classic cowgirl look. Button them all the way down (with a few left open at the top) and tuck them in evenly in your favorite denims, shorts, skirts, or jeans. Tucked-in shirts can also be worn with a solid camisole. Tuck the shirt in and button halfway up to reveal the camisole. And don't forget your rhinestone belt to keep your denims up and your western shirt tucked in!
How to Wear Rhinestone Belts with Your Western Shirts
While you usually wear your rhinestone belts with tucked in western shirts, you can also wear them without belt loops: casually buckle your rhinestone belt around a buttoned western shirt. To achieve the correct fit on the belt, make sure you buckle it a bit more loosely than you would if you had hooked it through belt loops--this way it will hang on your hips. Talk about sexy!
